Master Weishan said: “Although a beginner may, through certain conditions, experience a sudden realization of their own true nature in a single instant, the habitual tendencies accumulated over beginningless eons remain uncleansed. One must therefore purify the stream of consciousness bit by bit in everyday life – this is the practice. There is no other method to be prescribed. What does it mean by practice? It means that whenever the mind gives rise to delusion again, you immediately clear it away (replacing it with Amituofo / Amitabha). There is no other way to practice.”
Such words could only be spoken by a truly awakened person. Nowadays people consider themselves completely enlightened as soon as they attain a little understanding – how deluded they are!

潙山和尚云:「如今初心，雖從緣得一念頓悟自理，猶有無始曠劫習氣未能頓淨，須教渠淨除現業流識，即是修也，不道別有法教渠修行趨向。」潙山此語，非徹法源底者不能道。今稍有省覺，便謂一生參學事畢者，獨何歟?
