Ten Practices
“Ananda, now that the good practitioner has become the child of the Buddha and been endowed with all the immeasurable virtues of the Tathagatas, with total ease he responds to the needs of all beings throughout the ten directions. This stage is called ‘The Practice of Joy‘.
“And he becomes skillful in serving and benefiting all beings, which is called ‘The Practice of Good Deeds‘.
“And he becomes skillful in awakening themselves and enlightening others, without employing any violation or resistance, which is called ‘The Practice Free of Anger‘.
“Then he undergoes various rebirths freely and equally, throughout endless time and limitless space, which is called ‘The Practice of Inexhaustibility‘.
“For him the various Dharma doors are one single practice beyond error, and this stage is called ‘The Practice Beyond Ignorance and Delusion‘.
“Although myriad differences manifest within the sameness, the good practitioner can perceive one identity among all the appearances, and this stage is called ‘The Practice of Wholesome Manifestation‘.
“In the same way, the good practitioner can perceive the worlds of the ten directions in each and every dust mote throughout all space in the ten directions, and yet the dust motes and the worlds do not interfere with each other. This stage is called ‘The Practice of Nonattachment‘.
“Every appearance is perceived as the foremost paramita, and this stage is called ‘The Practice of Veneration‘.
“Once such perfect perception is attained, the good practitioner has acquired the perfect skills of all the Buddhas throughout the ten directions, and this stage is called ‘The Practice of Wholesome Dharmas‘.
“Each and every one is pure and without outflows, being one unconditioned, fundamental essence of reality, which is thus called ‘The Practice of Truth‘.”
阿難是善男子成佛子已。具足無量如來妙德。十方隨順名歡喜行。善能利益一切眾生名饒益行。自覺覺他得無違拒名無嗔恨行。種類出生窮未來際。三世平等十方通達名無盡行。一切合同種種法門。得無差誤名離癡亂行。則於同中顯現群異。一一異相各各見同名善現行。如是乃至十方虛空滿足微塵。一一塵中現十方界。現塵現界不相留礙名無著行。種種現前咸是第一波羅蜜多名尊重行。如是圓融能成十方諸佛軌則名善法行。一一皆是清淨無漏。一真無為性本然故名真實行。
Ten Dedications
“Ananda, now that the good practitioner who is replete with spiritual powers, who has attained Buddhahood and is completely pure and free from all obstacles and calamities, will be rescuing beings without the idea of rescuing. He simply dedicates the unconditioned mind to the path of Nirvana. This is the stage called ‘Dedication of Rescuing Without Attachment‘.
“And the good practitioner renounces what should be renounced, leaving everything behind. This stage is called ‘Dedication of Being Indestructible‘.
“And his inherent enlightenment is as clear as the enlightenment of the Buddhas. This stage is called ‘Dedication of Being Identical with All Buddhas‘.
“Now with the essential truth being realized, the good practitioner stands on the same level of Buddhas. This stage is called ‘Dedication of Reaching All Places‘.
“Now the worlds and Tathagatas are merged without any hindrance. This stage is called ‘Dedication of Inexhaustible Merit and Virtue‘.
“Since the good practitioner is on the same level as the Buddhas, all the causes he generates along the way are perfectly pure, through which he radiates light going straight down the path to Nirvana. This stage is called ‘Dedication of Following the Identical Roots of Goodness‘.
“With the roots of goodness well cultivated, all beings in the ten directions are realized as my own nature. With this nature perfectly realized, not a single being is excluded. This stage is called ‘Dedication of Following the Impartial Contemplation on All Beings‘.
“Being one with all dharmas yet nonattached to all phenomena, the good practitioner is neither attached to oneness nor to separation. This stage is called ‘Dedication of the Suchness about All Phenomena‘.
“Once the good practitioner has truly realized the suchness of reality, he encounters no obstacles throughout the ten directions. This stage is called ‘Dedication of Boundless Liberation‘.
“Then, when the virtue of true nature is perfectly realized, all limits of the Dharma Realm are eradicated. This stage is called ‘Dedication of the Boundlessness of the Dharma Realm‘.”
阿難。是善男子滿足神通成佛事已。純潔精真遠諸留患。當度眾生滅除度相。迴無為心向涅槃路。名救護一切眾生離眾生相迴向。壞其可壞遠離諸離。名不壞迴向。本覺湛然覺齊佛覺。名等一切佛迴向。精真發明地如佛地。名至一切處迴向。世界如來互相涉入得無罣礙。名無盡功德藏迴向。於同佛地地中各各生清淨因。依因發揮取涅槃道。名隨順平等善根迴向。真根既成十方眾生皆我本性。性圓成就不失眾生。名隨順等觀一切眾生迴向。即一切法離一切相。唯即與離二無所著。名如相迴向。真得所如十方無礙。名無縛解脫迴向。性德圓成法界量滅。名法界無量迴向。
