The Eighth of Ten Wrong States – Indulging in Worldly Enjoyments
“Again, the good practitioner has completely emptied the skandha of mental formations and put an end to mental arising and ceasing, but he has not perfectly realized the subtle wonder of Nirvana. Now, observing the interconnectedness of all lives, he starts clinging to his worldly passions, fearing that it will all come to an end. So he transforms himself to be seated in a lotus palace teeming with the seven treasures and beautiful women, in which he allows his mind to indulge and speculate it as the ultimate truth. Thus, he makes the mistake of taking what is not genuine as genuine and the lord of celestial demons becomes his companion. Confused about the Bodhi of the Buddhas, he wanders off from the Path of the Buddhas’ Right Knowledge and Proper Views.
“This is the eighth wrong state, where the practitioner gives rise to deviant thoughts and as a result, starts fervently indulging in worldly passions, which leads him to stray far away from perfect enlightenment, to turn his back on the City of Nirvana, and to sow the seeds of being reborn as a celestial demon.”
