Final Instructions on the Merit of Teaching the Surangama Dharma
“Ananda, suppose a person were able to gather all the precious things available in all ten directions in the space and make offerings with them to as many Buddhas as there are particles in the universe, never idling any moment without reverently serving the Buddhas – do you think this person would accrue many blessings from such offerings?”
Ananda replied, “The space is infinite; all the treasures in it are boundless. Once, someone gave the Buddha seven coins and was reborn as a Wheel-Turning Sacred King. Now, if someone were to offer to all the Buddhas with all the treasures throughout the Buddha-lands in the infinite space, the scope of such offering could never be imagined even if pondering for endless eons, how could the blessings he would receive ever be conceivable then?”
The Buddha told Ananda, “All the Buddhas, all the Tathagatas, never speak falsely. Now further imagine someone who has committed the Four Grave Offenses and the Ten Parajikas, who would then have to pass through all the Avichi Hells in this world as well as in all the other worlds throughout the ten directions, and yet if in the Dharma-ending Age he could for a mere moment explain this sutra to beings who have never learned about it, all his sins and obstacles would vanish, and all the hells would be transformed into lands of bliss. And the blessings he would receive would exceed by millions of billions of times the blessings accrued by the previous person who makes inconceivable offerings. The surpass would be so great that no calculations or analogies could cover it.
“Ananda, even if I try for endless kalpas I could never fully convey all the benefits that beings would gain from reciting this Sutra and upholding the mantra. Just follow this teaching and cultivate accordingly, and you will directly realize Bodhi with no more demonic obstructions.”
Now that the Buddha had finished speaking this Sutra, all the Bhikshus, Bhikshunis, laymen, laywomen, and the gods, humans, and asuras from all the worlds, as well as all the Bodhisattvas, Arhats, and Solitary Sages in other directions, together with ascetic masters, ghosts and spirits who had made the initial resolve to attain Bodhi – all of them were filled with great joy, and before departing they all bowed in deepest reverence.
阿难！若复有人，遍满十方所有虚空盈满七宝，持以奉上微尘诸佛，承事供养，心无虚度。于意云何，是人以此施佛因缘 ，得福多否？阿难答言：虚空无尽，珍宝无边。昔有众生，施佛七钱，舍身犹获转轮王位。况复现前，虚空既穷，佛土充遍，皆施珍宝 ？穷劫思议，尚不能及，是福云何更有边际？
佛告阿难：诸佛如来语无虚妄。若复有人身具四重、十波罗夷，瞬息即经，此方他方阿鼻地狱，乃至穷尽十方无间，靡不经历。能以一念 ，将此法门，于末劫中开示未学，是人罪障应念消灭，变其所受地狱苦因成安乐国。得福超越前之施人百倍 、千倍、千万亿倍，如是乃至算数譬喻所不能及。
阿难！若有众生，能诵此经，能持此咒，如我广说，穷劫不尽。依我教言，如教行道，直成菩提，无复魔业。
佛说此经已，比丘、比丘尼、优婆塞、优婆夷，一切世间、天、人、阿修罗，及诸他方菩萨、二乘、圣仙童子，并初发心大力鬼神，皆大欢喜，作礼而去。
