The Insight that Brings Us to the Other Shore

A Translation by Master Thich Nhat Hanh

Avalokiteshvara
while practicing deeply with
the Insight that Brings Us to the Other Shore,
suddenly discovered that
all of the five Skandhas are equally empty,
and with this realization
he overcame all Ill-being.

“Listen Sariputra,
this Body itself is Emptiness
and Emptiness itself is this Body.
This Body is not other than Emptiness
and Emptiness is not other than this Body.
The same is true of Feelings,
Perceptions, Mental Formations,
and Consciousness.

“Listen Sariputra,
all phenomena bear the mark of Emptiness;
their true nature is the nature of
no Birth no Death,
no Being no Non-being,
no Defilement no Purity,
no Increasing no Decreasing.

“That is why in Emptiness,
Body, Feelings, Perceptions,
Mental Formations and Consciousness
are not separate self entities.

The Eighteen Realms of Phenomena
which are the six Sense Organs,
the six Sense Objects,
and the six Consciousnesses
are also not separate self entities.

The Twelve Links of Interdependent Arising
and their Extinction
are also not separate self entities.
Ill-being, the Causes of Ill-being,
the End of Ill-being, the Path,
insight and attainment,
are also not separate self entities.

Whoever can see this
no longer needs anything to attain.

Bodhisattvas who practice
the Insight that Brings Us to the Other Shore
see no more obstacles in their mind,
and because there
are no more obstacles in their mind,
they can overcome all fear,
destroy all wrong perceptions
and realize perfect Nirvana.

“All Buddhas in the past, present and future
by practicing
the Insight that Brings Us to the Other Shore
are all capable of attaining
Authentic and Perfect Enlightenment.

“Therefore Sariputra,
it should be known that
the Insight that Brings Us to the Other Shore
is a Great Mantra,
the most illuminating mantra,
the highest mantra,
a mantra beyond compare,
the True Wisdom that has the power
to put an end to all kinds of suffering.
Therefore let us proclaim
a mantra to praise
the Insight that Brings Us to the Other Shore:

Gate, Gate, Paragate, Parasamgate, Bodhi Svaha!
Gate, Gate, Paragate, Parasamgate, Bodhi Svaha!
Gate, Gate, Paragate, Parasamgate, Bodhi Svaha!”


《摩诃般若波罗蜜多心经》

【加倍咒】

ong sang ba ra sang ba ra bo ma na sa ra ma ha zang ba ba hong ba de suo ha

【皈依发心】
诸佛正法菩萨贤圣僧
直至菩提自他竟皈依
为利一切如母诸有情
愿证诸佛般若究竟义

【称念圣号】
南无本师释迦牟尼如来、应供、正遍知、明行足、善逝、世间解、无上士、调御丈夫、天人师、佛、世尊。
南无大悲观世音菩萨。
南无般若会上佛菩萨。

【礼赞】

无可言思般若度 不生不灭虚空体 各别自证智行境 三世佛母我敬礼

【開經偈】

無上甚深微妙法 百千萬劫難遭遇 我今見聞得受持 愿解如來真實義

观自在菩萨,行深般若波罗蜜多时,照见五蕴皆空,度一切苦厄。舍利子,色不异空,空不异色,色即是空,空即是色,受想行识,亦复如是。舍利子,是诸法空相,不生不灭,不垢不净,不增不减。是故空中无色,无受想行识,无眼耳鼻舌身意,无色声香味触法,无眼界,乃至无意识界。无无明,亦无无明尽,乃至无老死,亦无老死尽。无苦集灭道,无智亦无得。以无所得故,菩提萨埵,依般若波罗蜜多故,心无挂碍,无挂碍故,无有恐怖,远离颠倒梦想,究竟涅槃。三世诸佛,依般若波罗蜜多故,得阿耨多罗三藐三菩提。故知般若波罗蜜多,是大神咒,是大明咒,是无上咒,是无等等咒,能除一切苦,真实不虚。故说般若波罗蜜多咒,即说咒曰:揭谛揭谛,波罗揭谛,波罗僧揭谛,菩提萨婆诃。

南无敬礼师,敬礼佛,敬礼法,敬礼僧,敬礼大佛母般若波罗蜜多。我之一切真实语,当愿成就。如昔时天王帝释思维大佛母甚深般若波罗蜜多义,依止念诵而遣除魔王波旬等一切违缘。如是我亦思维大佛母甚深般若波罗蜜多义,依止念诵,魔王波旬等一切违缘,愿皆遣除 (三遍)

愿成无有 愿成寂灭 愿极寂灭 (三遍)

  不生亦不灭 不常亦不断 不来亦不去 不一亦不异 (三遍)

  能说是因缘 善灭诸戏论 我稽首礼佛 諸說中第一 (三遍)

【回向偈】

愿以此功德 庄严佛净土 上报四重恩 下济三涂苦 若有見聞者 悉發菩提心 盡此一報身 同生極樂國

【回向文】

此福已得一切智 摧伏一切過患敵 生老病死猶波濤 願度有海諸有情

文殊師利勇猛智 普賢慧行亦復然 我今回向諸善根 隨彼一切常修學 三世諸佛所稱嘆 如是最勝諸大願 我今回向諸善根 為得普賢殊勝行

生生世世不離師 恆時享用勝法樂 圓滿地道功德已 唯願速得金剛持

【成就所願誓言】

以佛所获三身之加持
法性不变真谛之加持
僧众不退意乐之加持
如是回向发愿悉成就

【成就所願咒】

dá yǎ tǎ bān zàn zhé yǎ ā wǎ bō dá ní yē suǒ hā
